We bought the Jesus Family Tree poster at a small stand in Israel near the Sea of Galilee. Judging by the favourable reaction from friends at home who also wanted this unique poster, I thought it a good idea to negotiate with the copy holders in Israel for sole selling rights in South Africa.
Marketing, coupled with liaison, are the two things near to my heart which have marked my whole career throughout the years. I matriculated at Brits High near Pretoria, completed a BA degree and Teacher’s Diploma at Pretoria University after which I worked in London at the SA Citrus Exchange for two years, promoting South African citrus.
Thereafter I started my career in Johannesburg, spanning 20 years of journalism with the highlights certainly being the four years spent from 1978 – 1982 as a war correspondent and photo journalist during the bush war in the former Rhodesia. I was also public relations officer for Ster Films, as well as for film producer Jamie Uys, promoting his much acclaimed film ‘Funny People’.
The last few years of my formal career I spent at the Department of Foreign Affairs in Cape Town as head of the guest section, programming visits and scheduling the Minister’s official guests to the country.
After retiring from the Public Service, I joined Remax Properties in Bloubergstrand where I became one of the company’s Platinum holders as an estate agent. Back in my hometown Pretoria , it was time for a new venture and what a joy and privilege to be the first in South Africa to market the Jesus Family Tree – on a poster.
